ABOUT THE ARTIST
George Mattar was born in Beirut in 1961, and received his Architecture-Engineering diploma from ESIB (Ecole Supérieure d’Ingenieurs de Beyrouth), Saint Joseph University in 1986. In the year 2000, and after a professional career in architecture and construction that spanned fifteen years, he decided to dedicate himself completely to painting and design.
George Mattar proved himself to be of a multi-disciplinary artist; intermixing sculpture, carving and painting to create a unique, original and innovative works of art. His creative approach was embodied in spiritual subjects, where ideas and designs are stylized and simplified. His creativity was represented in the painting of twirling dervishes as the main symbols of Sufism.
